Skyjack Safety
A scissor lift is a particular type of industrial equipment that is used for "positioning personnel, their equipment and their tools," according to Skyjack. Anyone who is preparing to use this type of machinery needs to familiarize themselves with the recommended operational and safety procedures suggested by the manufacturer in order to stay safe prior to trying to use this machinery. It could be devastating to the operator themselves and any bystanders resulting in serious injuries if the safety procedures are not followed.
Area
In the best case scenario, the scissor lift would be operated on completely level ground. Prior to driving a scissor lift over a particular terrain, the area needs to be inspected and cleared of any debris. To be able to lessen the risks of the scissor lift tipping over and probably causing the driver to fall from his seat. It is recommended to stay away from steep grades or holes while operating. Bystanders should also remain aware and stay clear of the operating scissor lift so as to ensure they do not get run over.
Inspection
Before attempting to use a scissor lift, the user must carefully check all the integral components of the equipment. The operator can see if all the components are functioning properly before the task is initiated, a functional test is performed while the lift is retracted. It is recommended to complete a daily check on this equipment prior to the shift starting and several places even want an inspection to take place at the end of the shift too. Various businesses have various rules in place to maintain safety.
Part of the inspection needs to be inspecting the tires. These parts obviously add to the movability of the scissor lift and also provide the machine with a solid foundation. A tire that is worn or faulty could blow and throw the operator from their location on top of scissor lift.
