The forklift is a material handling machine utilized to raise and transport loads from one place to another. Every component of a forklift has a particular function. Different parts can be used to move the load either vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts which lift and lower the load. There are different types of masts used for lifting loads to different heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is located within the cab under the seat. The propane tank is located on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
Positioned within the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The steering wheel, gas pedal, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all situated in the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift components is the truck frame. This includes the counterweights located at the back that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
